Current Position
Working in an Agile team on improving the BaaS software the company provides by understanding the business needs, consulting with the clients, gathering requirements for new features, changes and improvements, and constantly assessing how to move the company forward. On a daily basis I am developing new features, doing code changes and enhancements, and maintaining the database using SQL and Oracle SQL Developer. I am also designing, building and deploying changes to the system; creating, testing and documenting clear concise code; and designing and coding new business processes. My other responsibilities involve writing documentation and tests for the aforementioned features.
Gentrack is a software company which provides cloud-first high-performance technology software for companies like OVO, goto.energy, bright energy, hunter water, among many others.
Creativity is one of my biggest strengths. Since a very young age, I loved creating, designing, and developing my ideas. For my undergraduate degree, I chose Sound Engineering because it was a choice that I felt would help develop my creative skills, give me an opportunity to express myself, and let me work with something I always loved - music. When I started this course I didn't yet know that it will help me find another passion that would let me express all of the above - software engineering. One of my very first modules was Programming in C, it introduced me to the world of code, showed me a way to 'talk' with a computer, and gave me a basic understanding of programming. In the following years, I also took modules like Digital Signal Processing where I learned about functional programming in Matlab and Embedded Systems which thought me about programming systems like Arduino and Raspberry Pi. As a side project, I have taught myself Python and all about Object-Oriented Programming, and Data Management, and for my dissertation, I have created my first complex, software engineering project written in Python. After finishing my undergraduate I felt I wanted to work in the tech industry, I then took a Master's in Computer Science to fill out any gaps in my knowledge and to start a career as a Software Engineer.
I am still currently working on my side projects page, for now they can be found at my GitHub here - SylanProjects
